… description and function
Each catalogue record is governed
by general rules. If the place of publication is unavailable or not possibly
to identify, the letters B.m. - "bez mista" (i.e. place missing) are used,
if this should be the publisher, the letters b.n. - "bez nakladatele" (publisher
missing) are used, or the letters may be combined, e.g. B.m.n. - "bez mista
a nakladatele" (place and publisher missing) or B.m.n.d. - "bez mista,
nakladatele a data" (place, publisher and date missing), where no publishing
data is available.
In the catalogue record appear
unabridged titles and subtitles, or, where applicable, concurrent titles
and all originators, including editors, artists, and authors of contributions
to anthologies and collections. They have beenleft out only in the rare
case where their large number would unduly encumber the entry; these are,
generally, authors of contributions quoted from other publications. We
have also tried to identify all pseudonyms, abbreviations and ciphers,
as well as to find out publishers and places of publications where these
had not appeared; we have also added the date of publication whenever possible.
Such secondary data appear in brackets, as well as formal descriptors,
included only in cases where general character of the publication is not
apparent from the title or subtitle. The record entry is ended by a class
(shelf) mark, under which the publication is field, and an acquisition
number, under which it is recorded.
The catalogue is provided with
four indexes. The author index contains the principal, as well as secondary
authors, including their roles, in coded form. The code list is enclosed.
The personal index contains names of persons written about or mentioned
in the publication. However, the index contains only the names substantially
dealt with in the publications, or names of authors whose relevant
biographical note appears in the book. Publisher index contains names of
publishers and editors, generally in the form that appears in the publication.
The title index contain titles, subtitles, and concurrent titles of works;
longer titles and subtitles have been reasonably shortened. Should a title
start by a character other than a letter or a numeral, the character has
been omitted. Should the first character be a Roman numeral, it may be
found under the appropriate letter (I, V, X).
